The right to a secure and secret vote has been around since the 19th century to protect voters from abuses that occurred with public voting, allowing them to vote their conscience.
Currently, when a union wants to organize workers in a workplace, a federally-supervised secret ballot election is held to determine if a majority of workers fairly choose unionization. Through a bill deceivingly labeled the Employee Free Choice Act, some lawmakers want to abolish these private ballot elections and allow unions to organize just by collecting signatures on union cards, giving them the ability to pressure and intimidate workers in public.
Americans for Prosperity is working hard send a strong message that the so-called Employee Free Choice Act is an enormous assault on our democratic values and on our rights.

Americans for Prosperity (AFP) will defend workers’ rights to cast secret ballots in Virginia as part of its nationwide Save My Ballot tour in opposition to the Employee Free Choice Act, also known as “card check,” which would strip workers of their rights in union organizing elections.

Last night, we held our first ever Pennsylvania Americans for Prosperity grassroots event in Pittsburgh. The focus: rallying grassroots activists against the job-killing "Card Check" legislation being pushed by President Obama, Speaker Pelosi and Big Labor Unions. This terrible legislation will also take the secret ballot away from American workers when the decision is being made as to whether or not their place of employment will be unionized.

RALEIGH - Over 600 people attended a series of events in North Carolina, as Americans for Prosperity began its nationwide “Save My Ballot Tour” in opposition to the misnamed Employee Free Choice Act, also known as “card check,” which would strip workers of their right to a secret ballot in union-organizing elections.
